Hello, I’m Michelle – the heart and hands behind Gifts for the Senses.
For many years, I ran my own wedding and events business – a demanding role filled with long hours, high expectations, and the constant pressure to make every moment perfect. While it was incredibly rewarding, it was also intense and all-consuming, leaving very little time or space to look after myself.
Life eventually encouraged me to slow down. Through illness, the challenges and joys of motherhood, and the responsibility of being a carer to my beautiful Mum, I found myself reassessing what truly mattered. In that slower space, I rediscovered the power of simple sensory experiences – the calming scent of essential oils, the gentle flicker of candlelight, and the grounding rituals that help quiet the mind.
From that journey, Gifts for the Senses was born: a place to share meaningful, nurturing products that encourage people to pause, breathe, and reconnect with themselves.
A huge part of our mission now includes candle-making workshops, designed to support mental health and wellbeing. These workshops offer a therapeutic, creative experience where people can relax, unwind, connect with others, and learn the mindful process of crafting something beautiful with their hands. They are spaces of calm, empowerment, and self-care and they represent everything I wished I had during the most challenging periods of my life.
Throughout this journey, my Mum was my greatest supporter – my rock, my encourager, and the one who taught me resilience, kindness, and compassion. Her spirit is woven into everything I create and every experience we offer, and I cannot thank her enough.
Today, Gifts for the Senses is more than a business. It’s a celebration of slowing down, of sensory wellbeing, and of finding joy in the small, meaningful moments that often get overlooked.
